For decades, the Niobrara River with its nearly unlimited sand supply, has been the single, largest contributor of the sedimentation building up in the Lewis and Clark Lake delta. A summer pilot project could provide evidence that installing bedload collectors on the river bottom would add years to the lake’s lifespan. Watch for sediment to be captured from the Niobrara River for at least one week during a pilot project coordinated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) – Omaha District and in collaboration with the Corps’ Engineering Development and Research Center (ERDC) and the Missouri Sedimentation Action Coalition (MSAC). The $161,500 pilot project is made possible by the Corps’ Regional Sediment management (RSM) Program... Get the rest of the story to read more about this historic moment!

Crofton, and greater Knox County, was recently involved in a University of Nebraska and Extension survey and study of the local community, its tourism possibility and help with a “placemaking plan” from funding via the USDA. The project involved a number of “secret shopper”-style guests that first got an impression of the community by searching it out online, then by drawing up an itinerary and visiting in person, then writing an exit-report of their opinions and findings. There were 25-plus members of the team that visited and toured Knox County, and five that visited and rated each community... On Monday, April 8th, 2024 there will be something special in the skies above Nebraska starting at 12:40 p.m. when the Earth’s moon will eclipse the sun. Though Nebraska doesn’t get to enjoy the total eclipse that it did during 2017 it will still be approximately 75% blocked during the peak of the eclipse which should take place around 1:53 p.m. Though it’s only been seven years since the total eclipse over Nebraska, the next one won’t take place across North America until August of 2045. As a reminder, staring an eclipse is dangerous to the eyes without protective equipment or specialized glasses.
