Welcome back to Cougar Corner!
In Niobrara/Verdigre’s history, there have been few athletes who have committed to sports after high school. Two of these athletes include Josilyn Miller from Verdigre Schools, and Gavin Chohon from Niobrara High. Both of these athletes committed to Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska, to continue their careers. Josilyn Miller committed to Hastings for Women’s Basketball. Graduating only last year, Josilyn holds many records for our basketball team, as well as assisting the team to two state games. With it only being her first year playing for Hastings, she is already showing a great deal of talent in the upper level. She gets a lot of playing time, while doing what she does best on the court. The Niobrara and Verdigre communities will continue to support her throughout the rest of her career.
Gavin Chohon committed to Hastings to play Bronco Football. Gavin graduated High School in 2021, having shown that he is a great defensive player. Hastings reached out and he committed there, and has now finished his fourth year of football this year. He has definitely shown what he can do, having had significant playing time over the years, and helping his team over many tough games. With also being a part of the Bronco Cheer Team, Gavin’s athletic days are not over yet. Gavin will graduate from Hastings College next May.
Niobrara/Verdigre athletics are proud to have raised these athletes. The Niobrara and Verdigre communities are wishing them best in what’s to come for the rest of their careers. Niobrara and Verdigre Schools are proud to say that these athletes, and many others, were born and raised right here.
Next week, the One Act team will perform in Neligh/Oakdale for Districts on Wednesday, Dec. 4. Thursday, Dec. 5, the N/V Cougars will have their first basketball game of the season.
