A week- long sediment collector pilot project is taking place in the Niobrara River at Niobrara this week. The Missouri Sedimentation Action Coalition (MSAC) has been the driving force in getting this project going and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has partnered with MSAC to get the proposal funded. The Niobrara River, with its nearly unlimited sand supply, has been identified as the single, largest contributor of the sedimentation building up in the Lewis and Clark Lake delta. MSAC sees this short-term collector pilot project as having the potential of sparking long-term results.
